Penfold Community Hub

If you live in Westminster and are aged 50 plus or a carer, the Penfold Community Hub has a wide range of opportunities available to you. We offer stimulating and accessible activities, as well as advice and counselling services, to help you remain healthy, independent and active in your local community.

Activities and services

  • Physical activity classes, including exercise, music, Tai Chi and chair-based yoga
  • Age UK Westminster drop-in sessions (twice-weekly) for confidential help and advice
  • Introductory painting and drawing classes, along with craft sessions
  • Cook and Eat sessions – cooking up a weekly healthy lunch for older residents in the community
  • Drop-in Sewing Café, with free access to sewing machines and a friendly group of people
  • Gardening – growing vegetables and flowers for the Centre, and if you wish, in a patch of your own
  • Well-being services, including reflexology, massage, acupuncture, beauty therapy, hairdressing and more, all at very reasonable cost
  • Regular health information sessions on issues such as diabetes, dementia and preventing falls
  • Social lunches (weekly) with accessible activities in the afternoon
  • Singing groups, Bingo, minibus and coach outings, visits to the theatre and art galleries, and the list goes on!

Frequently asked questions

  • Who can take part in activities?

    Any Westminster resident aged 50 plus and their carer can join in the activities at the Hub. There is no membership, however participants will be asked to complete a simple registration form when attending one of our sessions.

  • Where do the activities take place?

    Many activities are hosted at our main activities centre – also serving as our office – which is located at 60 Penfold Street (see map below). We are close to the Church Street Market, just off of Edgware Road.

    Activities also take place at 10 other locations in the Church Street, Maida Vale and St. Johns Wood areas. All the venues we use are wheelchair accessible.

  • Does the Hub provide transport?

    Westway Community Transport has a number of supported transport options to help you to access Hub activities. Contact them on 020 8964 1114 to discuss available options. You can also register with Dial-a-Ride at 034 3222 7777.

  • How much do the activities cost?

    Most of our sessions are provided either at a low cost – £1 per hour for tutor-led activities – or are free. Outings are subsidised and typically cost £3 for minibus trips or £14 for Coach outings. Complimentary therapy sessions are offered at much reduced costs. Hairdressing and beauty therapy treatments operate at special 50 plus prices, starting from £5.
