Independent living for 55+

We offer homes that are tailored for residents who are 55+ years old and want to live independently but without the worries that often come with owning and maintaining a home.

Also known as sheltered housing, our homes for independent living are one or two-bedroom self-contained apartments for individuals or couples, in buildings that offer a safe and secure environment.

Living with us

Our independent living schemes are designed especially for independent and active seniors. They often feature communal gardens, lounges and kitchens. They also have a range of social events on offer. Homes come equipped with easy-access to a 24-hour emergency alarm.

Site facilities officers help create a welcoming, safe and well-maintained building. They are a convenient point of contact for residents to discuss anything from repairs to the weather. Each resident is also paired with a housing officer who will help with all housing-related issues.

We do not provide support within our schemes, so residents should be able to live independently or have a support plan in place when they move in.

Which boroughs offer independent living?

We manage more than 20 schemes, with between nine and 60 flats each, in the following boroughs:

  • Ealing
  • Hammersmith and Fulham
  • Haringey
  • Kensington and Chelsea
  • Lambeth
  • Merton
  • Newham
  • Southwark.

Already living with us?

If you're already living with us, speak with your housing officer about independent living schemes that may suit you.

If you have spare rooms in your home, you may be eligible for a downsizing payment and help towards moving to a smaller home. Your housing officer will be able to advise you.

Not living with us, but interested?

If you're not a Notting Hill Housing tenant and would like to move into one of our independent living schemes, please contact your local authority.
