Moving into a SimpliCity home has been “completely life-changing” for one young family enjoying the security of a five-year tenancy.
Amy Bell, 26, moved into her three-bedroom house in Dagenham last August, alongside husband Martin, 30, and their children Lewis, five, Jacob, 21 months and Ava, seven months.
They had previously been squeezed into a two-bed privately-rented flat.
Amy said: “Without SimpliCity we’d never have been able to afford to live in a house like this. We have such a great quality of life now.
“We can finally enjoy being a young family and we even have a garden for the kids.
“We can’t afford a mortgage but this feels like a proper home so that doesn’t matter. We never felt like that while we were living in a flat.”
Amy and Martin first heard of SimpliCity – then called Notting Hill Community Housing – one night last summer, when they decided they needed to get out of their old flat and took to Rightmove.
“We saw a place somewhere else in Dagenham and were amazed at the price. It turned out it was being offered by SimpliCity. We viewed it and decided it wasn’t for us, but spoke to the housing officer and he had another couple of viewings lined up.
“We went along with him and that’s when we found this place. It’s like speed dating, only with houses.
“I couldn’t believe how easy the whole process was. Everything went so smoothly and it was only three or four weeks between us signing the paperwork and moving in.
“We have a five-year tenancy. Knowing you’re secure is so important when you have young children. When you’re renting you are always worried someone will ask for their flat back.
“I was born and bred in Dagenham so it’s been brilliant to stay close to family and friends. My mum is only 10 minutes’ away and Lewis’ school only five minutes from here.
“My favourite thing about the house is all the space we have. We have a loft conversion and the boys love having their own special room, while we all love the garden.
